File A Successful SSD Claim In Michigan
It is an unfortunate fact that the majority of initial applications for Social Security disability benefits are denied. Many people try to fight the process themselves, only to learn that the cards are stacked against them. The hard work and level of detail necessary to gather the information and submit it properly is so frustrating that many people eventually give up.
We Are Proud To Be Local Attorneys, Born And Raised In West Michigan
We don't give up. Our attorneys have more than 50 combined years of legal experience successfully handling first-time SSD claims and appeals. We handle every part of the process for you. From reviewing your case, gathering medical information, and preparing documents, to accompanying you to the hearing, we are right there for you.
We Have Helped Our Clients Receive Millions Of Dollars In SSD Benefits
We know what it takes to file a successful claim. The key to a successful claim is making sure that every detail is taken into consideration before filing an initial claim. Taking a little extra time up front will prevent major delays if your claim is rejected. There are a few basic things that every experienced Social Security lawyer knows. First, most people are under the mistaken impression that “disability” means the same thing as “unable to work.” The fact is, depending on your situation, you can work and still qualify for Social Security disability benefits. Our attorneys can explain what is involved and what steps you need to take to document your disability.
Don't Take No For An Answer
In addition, although you may have been denied Social Security disability income benefits on your initial application, a process exists that allows you to challenge your denial. For any SSDI hearing, having a lawyer represent you is essential. If your appeal requires a hearing before an administrative law judge, points of law and other technical issues may arise. You must defend your rights within what the law allows.
For any SSD hearing, having a lawyer represent you is a key factor for success. Your appeal may require a hearing before an administrative law judge, where you will be expected to argue points of law and other technical issues. Your attorney will defend your rights based on medical records, documents prepared to prove your disability, and the law.

Do I Qualify For SSD Or SSI?
Both Social Security Disability insurance and Supplemental Security Income require a disability in order to qualify for benefits. The disability must prevent you from working, be medically documented, and last at least 12 months.
Social Security Disability Insurance is for those with impairments that prevent you from working a full-time job. Those qualifying for Social Security Disability benefits must have required earnings. Your disability must prevent you from engaging in "substantial gainful activity."
Supplemental Security Income is a needs-based program for those with a disabling condition expected to last at least 12 months.
You May Qualify For Both Programs
The vast majority of people applying for Social Security Disability (RSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are denied at first. More than one appeal is typically necessary and we can help you take advantage of all opportunities for success.
We have deep roots in west Michigan. We are here to serve you and we do not charge a fee unless and until you are granted benefits. Contact us via email, or call 616-454-3300, to determine your SSI or SSDI eligibility.
How Do I Apply?
The application forms for Social Security Disability (RSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are available online. Alternately, you can go to the Social Security offices, or call a toll-free number to obtain the forms. However, we encourage you to take advantage of a confidential, no-cost, no-obligation consultation with us about making your initial application. You can then apply knowing you have done so fully and correctly.
Some individuals are unable to complete the forms themselves due to physical or mental impairment. We offer our services to these people. Social Security encourages you to seek an attorney for representation. The process involves multiple stages - as many as 80 percent of initial applications are denied. We help you qualify at each stage.
Be prepared to be denied and to appeal. Information from your doctors and family members will be requested. If Social Security did not request that information or your records, we will do it for you. Our attorneys have more than 50 years of combined experience. We can help you throughout the process and appeal.
At our firm, you will be treated as an individual, not just a case. We are respectful of our clients' needs and offer a high level of service. We return phone calls promptly. We understand the procedures of local jurisdictions, and we will travel to meet you if you are unable to meet us in our offices.
There is no fee for our services unless you win and obtain your benefits! Contact us via email, or call us at 616-454-3300.
What If I Am Denied?
Social Security Disability insurance is available to those disabled and meeting certain eligibility requirements.
Supplemental Security Income is a needs-based program for those with a disabling condition expected to last at least 12 months. It may take three to five months, or more, to get a decision. The vast majority of people applying for SSDI or SSI benefits are denied at first.
We will take the burden off your shoulders. Do not delay after receiving your letter of denial. If you have been denied Social Security Disability (RSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, we must file an appeal within 60 days. If you fail to appeal in that time, you must start over. The vast majority of our clients—eventually—receive benefits.
Due to a tremendous application backlog, the appeals process can take a long time. However, there are ways to expedite the process. If we believe the weight of the medical evidence makes your case clear and unequivocal, we will request an on-the-record decision.
A "dire needs" hearing may be granted if you need benefits to pay for necessary utilities, medical help, or you are about to lose your home to foreclosure.
While a diagnosis of terminal cancer will be paid without question, other cases such as a failed back surgery or mental health issues such as bipolar disorder or depression are more difficult but definitely worth pursuing.
We recommend complete honesty and truth in your application and appeal. Any reason for suspicion may negatively affect the decisions about your case.
